The Board

Imke Bunnik (Secretary-General)

Hello everyone! My name is Imke Bunnik and I recently obtained my Bachelor of Laws at Utrecht University. Besides being a board member of Urios, the study association for international and European law in Utrecht, I have the honour to be the Secretary-General of the third edition of URUMUN. I have always had a passion for international affairs and discussing global issues. During my law studies, I discovered that I am particularly interested in international and European law. That is why I was more than happy to find out about Model United Nations: a way to combine my interests in the fields of international law, international relations and debating. In my opinion, MUN is a unique opportunity to get involved with UN diplomacy as well as to improve your negotiating skills. In addition, it is a fantastic way to explore new cities and socialize with students and new friends from all over the world. I would thus encourage all MUN’ers, no matter how experienced, to participate in URUMUN and have an unforgettable time in one of the most beautiful and vibrant student cities of the Netherlands: Utrecht. I look forward to welcoming you all in March!

Yiokasti Mouratidi (Secretary)

Hi everyone! My name is Yiokasti Mouratidi and I am spending my Erasmus year abroad here in Utrecht!  I am 20 years old and doing a 4 year law degree at the University of Nottingham in the UK.  Back in the UK I am heavily involved in law related activities like Mooting and Mock Trials, but I decided here in Utrecht that I wanted to broaden my horizons and find out more about international affairs and how topical issues are dealt with by the international community.  Therefore, I decided to join the URUMUN Board! It’s the perfect way to combine my enthusiasm for public speaking with my wish to explore and find out more about international policies and processes. I have fallen in love with this city and everything it has to offer and I look forward to meeting you and giving you an outsider’s perspective to Utrecht! Tot ziens!

Erik Jan Kamphof (Treasurer)

Hello! My name is Erik Jan Kamphof. I will be the treasurer of the URUMUN Board this year and thus responsible for all financial aspects of the conference. Just like Imke, I am also a member of the Urios board and besides that I will (try to) complete the third year of my law studies at Utrecht University. I am excited about organizing and attending this year’s URUMUN. Firstly, I am very much looking forward to meeting people from around the world with similar interest. Also, as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed a good discussion or debate (as my friends can confirm) and this years MUN’s will provide a perfect opportunity to apply this skill. We hope that you are as excited as we are, and that we will see you at this years URUMUN!

Kiki Huisman (Internal Affairs Commissioner)

Hi everyone! My name is Kiki Huisman. I am 22 years old and I just started my Masters in Public International Law with a specialization in Human Rights at Utrecht University. The reason I wanted to join the URUMUN Board, was that I heard so many enthusiastic people about it and to express my interest in global issues, learning other cultures and countries. You not only learn a lot about the UN organization but it is also a great way to meet a lot of new people with the same interests. My passion for human rights comes from the several volunteer trips I made during the years and the human rights course I followed during my Bachelors in Law. With participating in several MUN’s in Europe, I hope not only to meet a lot of new people but also to bring my study into practice and improve my English skills. I am looking forward to meet all the people who want to broaden their horizons and bring their passion into practice!

Hanna Dohle (Internal Affairs Commissioner)

Hello everyone! My name is Hanna Dohle, I am 23 years old and a fourth year law student at Utrecht University. I study law with a multidisciplinary approach, which means that aside from law, I also focus on politics, international relations and how these three fields are related. I recently went abroad for a year in California, where I actively participated in multiple MUN conferences and was the Director-General for our own conference there. Since then I have been hooked on MUN, and I am very excited to be on the URUMUN Board this year. MUN is not just educative, it is also extremely fun and when attending conferences you will create memories that will last a lifetime. For 2018, we are ready to host quality debate in a vibrant beautiful city full of student life. See you in March!

Soumyaa Verma (Public Relations Commissioner)

Hi everybody! My name is Soumyaa Verma. I am a 23 year old student, pursuing my Masters in Public International Law with a specialisation in the International Law of the Sea and International Environmental Law, from Utrecht University. I completed my Bachelors in law (BA.LLB) with Honours in Political Science from India, during which I extensively participated in debates and Moot Court Competitions. For the want of a more intellectually stimulating and fun experience, my interest in MUN grew and it never ceases to amaze me how participation in this activity always leaves you more informed, active and globally aware than you were before. I have seen that skills one can develop through MUN are useful throughout one’s career, whether in law or not. I am very excited for this opportunity of being on the URUMUN Board this year and I am sure we will have a very memorable experience together at Urios Utrecht Model United Nations. See you then!

Vildan Drpljanin (Public Relations Commissioner)

Welcome Delegates! I am Vildan Drpljanin, 23 years old student at the Master Programme in Public International Law at Utrecht University. I obtained my Bachelor of Laws at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, and I am in the process of writing a thesis for a Double Master Degree Programme in Intellectual Property Law with the University of Strasbourg. I started doing debate when I was a junior in high school. From the very beginning, I entered an unknown world of arguments, one which in every step of the way demanded of me to think profoundly about questions of morality, ethics, science, policy and much more; something that was quite contrary to my surroundings where religion and authority are considered the absolute truth. Similarly, the possibility to join URUMUN is a distinctive opportunity to see how international law, and specifically the United Nations,  work and to improve your speaking and negotiating skills. I strongly believe we will share a lot of great memories and that URUMUN will be an experience you fondly remember!
